Why Entry Fees Aren't Included

Why some attractions are marked “Entry Fees Not Included” — and why that's the point

A plain explanation of how our tours are built, how entry fees work, and why we price them the way we do — using our Singapore Self-Guided Audio Tour as the example.

Part I

How a Uvamai tour is actually built

When we built the Singapore Self-Guided Audio Tour, we selected 21 attractions based on one thing: which places tell Singapore's story best. Historical weight. Cultural significance. Walkability. Narrative value — not whether a place happens to charge for entry.

That's deliberate. A city's story doesn't stop at the boundary of a ticket booth. Some of the most important places in any city are free public spaces. Others are independently run institutions that set and collect their own entry fee, on their own terms, with no involvement from us at all. We don't own these places. We don't sell their tickets. We tell their story, and we hand you a map to reach them.

Because you choose your own route, not every traveller visits every stop. A traveller who spends their day at Gardens by the Bay and the waterfront may never set foot inside a museum that day. Folding every possible entry fee for all 21 attractions into a single mandatory price would mean charging that traveller for entry they never used.

What's Included

  • Audio guide playlist, all attractions
  • Interactive itinerary map
  • Access valid up to 6 days

Uvamai Niche Tourism — Product Philosophy

This is the same standard we apply consistently across all 136+ tours in 42+ countries we operate — not a policy unique to any single listing.

Part II

Why some platforms push to bundle the price anyway

If you've ever wondered why an online travel agency occasionally asks a supplier to fold every possible extra cost into one headline price, the reason isn't a mystery — it's arithmetic.

Most online travel agencies earn their revenue as a commission on the total price charged to the traveller — typically in the twenty-to-thirty percent range. That's standard, public industry practice. The consequence: a platform earns more from a $40 listing than a $6 one, regardless of whether the traveller actually uses everything that $40 supposedly includes. A higher listed price is not automatically a better product — it's automatically a bigger commission.

This isn't a claim about any one platform's private intentions. It's simply how a commission-based marketplace is structured. Most listing frameworks were also built around fixed-itinerary group tours or single-ticket attractions, where "the price" and "what's included" are the same thing for every buyer. A self-guided, pick-your-own-attractions audio tour doesn't fit that mould — the traveller, not the operator, decides how much of the itinerary they'll use.

We keep our pricing unbundled and our disclosures upfront, because that's more accurate for the traveller, not less. Where a platform requires a bundled option, we're willing to offer one as an additional, optional package alongside our base, disclosed-as-is listing — so travellers still get to choose.

The attraction tells its own story — we tell it in our own voice. The ticket belongs to the attraction.

The choice of which stops to visit — tickets and all — belongs to you.
